Arts Council Of Beaufort County

Beaufort County’s New Arts Leaders by Lisa Annelouise Rentz

Bluffton’s new mayor, Lisa Sulka, also recognizes the value of the arts in her town. “Bluffton’s always been an arts niche,” she explained, standing on the porch of the newly renovated Seven Oaks on Calhoun Street. “As we were annexing

land, the thought was for Bluffton to be an eclectic arts community. We support artists. The Arts & Seafood Festival has gone crazy. The streetscape has

started, adding much to the Gateway of Bluffton— oak trees, cobblestones,

lighting— connecting May River Road to Calhoun Street. I don’t have any

personal art experience, I can draw stick figures. But I’ve known Amos

since his “Hummell Disfigurines.” My kids are talented too, thank goodness

for the public schools.”
