Seeing Green Dots

"Green" is the new buzzword-- globally. No news there. Now let me throw some dots out there to connect: Sea Pines was built in a "green" spirit. Inspired by the Lowcountry's beauty, Mr. Frasier was passionate about keeping it lush and beautiful, always. This revolutionary approach has inspired much of what has grown in the last 50 years to be a highly developed, eco-friendly Lowcountry. It is still very green, thankfully. Look at the artwork in people's homes around you: Lowcountry inspired paintings of land, sea, and sky with all manner of life flourishing beneath. The Lowcountry is notorious for stirring the creative soul in everyone. Look at the push for the arts here in the Lowcountry. Art & design along with clean tech are the new" green age" of all of America. How much of your Lowcountry art is displayed in homes and businesses? Lowcountry art, because of this push, is a fast growing art genera and vital to adding richness to almost every historic and vacation spot south of Charleston. Did any of your sales help keep a gallery in the green? Now go to Southern Living and Coastal Living magazines and search their site for Lowcountry Art. No articles. Now Google Lowcountry Art. I use quote marks-- I got 1660 returns. At least the term is out there. In light of the economy (un-green) and the desperation I am hearing across the board on HHI, and trickles from Savannah & Beaufort, I'd say the timing is right to arrange these dots so a national magazine might recognize the pattern of artistics appreciating and respecting nature in a community-- fostering a healthy, thriving habitat for all creatures-- great and small. A comprehensive, region wide story may perhaps benefit the Lowcountry or provide an inspiration to other communities. Certainly the importance of how we all see this garden-- the Lowcountry, as the living soul it is-- is an art unto itself. I know most of you and you all are teachers of this art. The 6.5 billion people of world need to learn how to see this way-- it is critically overdue. There are many, many more positive dots, but you get the picture: This region thrives because of artistic vision, and every Lowcountry artist is a vital, living reminder. Think of this space into which you can type as a prism, and let your light shine on these dots, and we shall behold a prism riot of our collective soul-- Artfully, Amos Hummell
